I have a Brother MFC620CN and what I do is put in an SD Card into the machine, do a scan to card and then pickup the scan in OS/2 either via the USB connection of via FTP to the device.

I have a Brother MFC8440 which is printer, scanner and fax combined. All connections are via network - ie: has a NIC card installed. Have no problems with printing, and don't need the fax.
