ASUS M2N-MX SE

Mark: Very bad

eCSV2.0RC2 installed - but on reboot to stage 2 (with SNAP video) failed to get to high-resolution. Booting to command-line and enabling VGA allowed boot to desktop in vanilla VGA, horrible at 640 x 480 x 4-bit with default RC2 background!! Attempted to install Panorama-VESA driver, unsuccessfully! (later with disk in another machine with Nvidia TNT2 AGP video card - was able to get Panorama-VESA 2007-09-20, IIRC, working fine at 1280 x 1024 x 24-bit - very impressive - I like it!

Graphics on board - Nvidia Geforce 6100 GPU - up to 256MB shared - max res 1920 x1440 x32bpp (@75Hz)

Nvidia Nforce 430 (MCP = Media & Communications Processor) worked OK with Dani's .ADD using a spare ATA66 Seagate 10GB disk (PATA), couldn't try with SATA as I don't have a spare SATA disk, but imagine it would work ditto. 1x ATA133/100/66 IDE + 2 x 3Gb/sec SATA 2

2 DIMMs supporting unbuffered non-ECC dual-channel memory to 800

  • All usual legacy ports - incl 8 x USB 2.0
  • 1 x PCIe x16
  • 2 regular PCI
  • PHY 10/100 LAN not recognised - tried nveth driver, apparently loaded OK, but no connection to DHCP ex-ADSL modem.
  • Audio is HDA (Azalia) plus ALC662 codec - sound not working in eCS at all.

Re: Boards wih Nvidia chipsets.

In my experience, boards with Nvidia chipsets are best left alone if you wish

to install *any* Os for serious general work.

It has to do with the way they implement

their x86 architecture I think - and their

drivers are optimised for Windows only.

Nvidia chipsets are however excellent for

gaming but thats all.

I have found least problems with Intel and Via chipsets while installing OSes like- os2/Ecs/Linux/Bsd/Xp/Win98se-Me/Dos/Unix dont know about Vista as I dont intend going that way.

Either way I have stayed away from Mainboards that have the 'N' designation on them and have had few if any problems on Intel and Via chipsets.

Ideas for the developers:

eComStation developer! Keep in mind that eComStation should be your main system: make all work in eCS, using eCS tools. If you start spending 1 hour/day in other system then you stop any development for eComStation..
