IBM Thinkpad T42

Mark: Very good

Runs OS/2 Warp 4 and ecs 1.2. All devices apart from the internal (win) Modem are supported. Intel 2200BG Wireless chipset supported using Genmac Wrapper driver version 1.5 and WlanMon v 2.12. Video support using SCiTech, audio using Uniaud. Gb network uses Intels own IntelPro/1000 Gb driver for OS/2. When going to drivers page enter model number of laptop. Alternative source of drivers is the OS/2 device driver website.

This is a very positiv comment ono the T42. I probably'll buy this type one day.

Which model is it exactly, you use?

By the way: neither the homepage nor the driver link do work any more. IBM is really making jokes with their customers again unfortunately.

Christoph

A bit late for your purchase but for reference anyway - exact model I use is a 2373-7WM.

Yes the IBm repositories are now closed however most drivers are downloadable from the eComStation site or Hobbes.

I have run an early eCS 2.0 RC version on a T42 some years ago. It worked well. The only part that I could not get to work was the dial-up modem. If this has the original WiFi card in it it will be an Intel 2200BG that is supported by GenMac. If Wifi has been added after purchase, it may be a different WiFi chipset that may or may not be supported.

Here's my article on how to install the GenMac support for this WiFi chipset - [url]

However with eCS 2.0 GA a lot of this is no longer needed as the install is better automated, but this is a method you can fall back on if the auto install of support doesn't work.

Apart from that installing eCS was pretty straight forward. Since you already have Windoze 7 on the system, you may wish to consider installing eCS as a dual-boot rather than wiping the drive (this is what I needed to do as my T42 was the companies laptop and they had Windoze specific applications).

I initially had some problems with shrinking the (in this case XP) windows partition, but Jan gave the info I needed - all documented here: [url]

In any case, make sure you get the original Windows 7 install disk if buying with the OS on the system, as otherwise, this is likely to be a pirate copy of the OS. In fact at $180 for the complete package, it has to be a copy as Windows 7 would cost that much on its own!
